Small Night In

My cosy night at home has become a little more exciting with the announcement of the line-up for the 2008 Big Day Out. BJORK!!! Yes, that's right Aussies, she's visiting this humble island for the first time in over 10 years. Race Against The Machine will be rocking the house as well as Dizzee Rascal, Billy Bragg & Paul Kelly. The home-grown additions are as always extensive and spectacular including Sarah Blasko, Grinspoon, Faker, Hilltop Hoods, Midnight Juggernauts and Something with Numbers.

Sure, I won't be attending, but it still makes me happy to know they are here...

Sunshine, Lollipops

Radiohead annouced on their blog today that they will be releasing their new album, 'In Rainbows' in 10 days! Rumour has it that you can purchase a box-set, including the CD, a vinyl version of the album and some artwork or you can purchase it electronically for the amount you think it's worth. Yes, that's right, you can choose how much you pay. The minimum is 1 pound, which is about $2.30 for us Aussies and you US folk have a minimum of around $2.05, depending of course on the exchange rates in 10 days.

Paths To Victory

It's grand final day Australia!!! The Eagles aren't in it this year but it'll still be an exciting game. Even though Geelong have always been one of my most hated teams, all the players from the 92, 94 games are no longer around really so I can't continue to hold grudges and I think they are my pick for this game. I was going to include a song about cats and one about power but the obvious choice is to have a Cat Power song, so here's her cover of a hit by Bob Dylan thanks to Bradley's Almanac.

Run Run Run Girl

I've had Always on the Run in my Music Links section since this blogs conception but I've never really talked about it. This site changed my life. Before blogs became bigger and louder than Barry Hall it was pretty hard to find good music sites that included a range of music, not just a specific band/artist, and not just top-40 shit. There were a few out there but most of them were commercially driven and have since become harder to access for free.
I originally started using the site to access lyrics to songs that are hard to find, especially non-album tracks. I highly recommend this as a staple lyrics source. Once you make it back to the main page you can spend hours sifting through all the artists, and I love the 'Similar Bands' info in the mp3 boxes... very handy.
Here are some random tracks I found on their site... enjoy.

Remix 'o Dyeus

Flashback! We all remember that fantastic remix of Carl Orff's O Fortuna from 1992, though not many people know the name of the original song (it's pretty funny when people try to sing it to you, they sound like they're from Psycho) and Apotheosis is not the easiest band name to remember. What ever happened to those guys?

When I decided to post this song I figured it would be all over the place but it's not really mentioned in any blogs. Then, to my surprise there are only two vids for it on YouTube and they are just stills of the single's album cover with the song over the top. The film clip was my favourite part! Please, if anyone has this clip saved somewhere, add it to YouTube and email me to let me know because I am dying to see it again. Do you remember all the old cartoons sped up? It was a brilliant music video. Enjoy the track...
